Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not touching your face.
The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).

First two cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Pakistan on 4th March 2020. The nationwide tally of COVID-19 cases has risen to 22,550 as of 6th May 2020 and 526 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in Pakistan. In the line with the vision of Government of Sindh, for early detection of COVID-19 and to combat with this deadly disease, IHS has already taken following steps in all the public health facilities under its management control under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project Sindh.
IHS has established 100 bedded ‘COVID-19 Isolation centers’ at SGH Kohsar (Hyderabad), Labor colony Sukkur, in collaboration with the Government of Sindh, for the early diagnosis of COVID-19 patients and keep them in isolation (for at least 2 weeks), to decrease the spread of this deadly disease.
